Sun Group Breaks Ground on VND 21,000+ Billion Hot Spring Resort Complex in Phu Tho

On the afternoon of June 26, in Kim Boi and Lac Son districts (Phu Tho Province), Sun Group, in coordination with local authorities, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest hot spring resort complex in Northern Vietnam, covering a total area of 584.73 hectares with an investment of over VND 21,000 billion.

In Phase 1, the complex will be developed with three key projects: (1) the Ecological Urban Area, Premium Entertainment Complex and Cuoi Ha Cable Car System; (2) the New Rural Residential Area, Resettlement Infrastructure and Quy Hoa Housing Area; and (3) the Serena Resort expansion featuring resort tourism, hot spring bathing and entertainment facilities. The total Phase 1 area exceeds 240 hectares, comprising more than 2,500 villas, townhouses combined with commercial functions, resort villas, along with a modern entertainment system and synchronized infrastructure.

The projects are envisioned to create a high-end resort urban area, scientifically and harmoniously integrating architectural elements while maximizing the values of the Kim Boi hot spring source together with forested mountain landscapes, fresh nature and cool year-round temperatures at Doi Thung—regarded as the “second Tam Dao” of the North, even comparable to alpine destinations in Switzerland—bringing a living and resort environment with truly unique values for owners and visitors.

Among them, the Ecological Urban Area, Premium Entertainment Complex and Cuoi Ha Cable Car System project in Kim Boi is the largest, covering nearly 200 hectares with a total investment of VND 6,656 billion. The project is oriented toward forming a premium ecological and hot spring resort and entertainment space, featuring 1,200 villa homes, 700 townhouses combined with commercial functions, integrated with resort villas and luxury hotels managed by world-class brands, together with modern entertainment complexes.

Overall, the project is divided into two sub-zones: the North and the South. The Northern sub-zone is planned as an ecological residential and resort area with lakeside villas and island villas, highlighted by a central landscape lake. The Southern sub-zone will be developed as an ecological residential area with diversified housing types. This area will also feature meeting and event venues, a water park, a central lake park, a cultural-village-style hotel, and landscaped parks.

A standout highlight of the complex is the 4.5-km-long Cuoi Ha cable car line, with the Kim Boi departure station inspired by the stilt houses of the Muong people. The arrival station at Doi Thung is designed with European inspiration, recreating a charming Swiss mountain village.

Located at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, Doi Thung enjoys a cool and pleasant climate all year round. With a pristine natural ecosystem, the area offers a fresh, quiet and oxygen-rich environment—ideal for premium resort activities, physical recovery and wellness therapy. This will be the setting for a European-style resort space, highlighted by a “Hot Spring Stream Park” featuring the valuable Kim Boi mineral water source emerging from ancient limestone strata dating back about 250 million years, containing minerals particularly beneficial to health.

The park delivers a unique hot spring bathing experience inspired by three major cultures: the Swiss Alps, Roman, and Turkish. The Roman bathing zone fully recreates the traditional bathing journey with Frigidarium (cold), Tepidarium (warm), Caldarium (hot) and Laconium (very hot) pools, combined with outdoor pools, hydrotherapy areas and a dedicated Roman massage zone using essential oils. The Turkish bathing zone is designed as a traditional Hammam space with artistic light-filled domes, dry and steam rooms, and hot stone areas. In addition, there will be a chain of outdoor mineral soaking facilities, cave pools, mud baths, cold rooms, children’s pools, and more than 30 terraced hot spring pools inspired by the characteristic terraced fields of the Northwest.

Doi Thung is also shaped to become a unique cultural and resort experience center, gathering the essence of traditional crafts and the slow-living spirit of classical Europe, with a “Swiss craft village” offering a wide range of traditional European experiences—from bakeries, cheese and chocolate workshops, ceramic studios, to European-Vietnamese cooking classes, tea houses, a village square with a clock tower and a European-style church. Interwoven are seasonal agricultural farms—Cao Phong orange gardens, Tan Lac pomelo orchards, plum and grape gardens, apiaries, strawberry farms, along with horse-riding areas and children’s zoos. More than just a resort destination, Doi Thung is where visitors can touch Europe in the heart of the Northwest, slowing down amid fresh air and year-round cool weather.

The projects are expected to create a distinctive, modern, high-class ecological urban and resort space, while gradually completing tourism and service infrastructure for Hoa Binh Province.”

Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Member of the Founding Council and Chairman of Sun Group, affirmed: “The complex of projects launched today are important links in Sun Group’s strategy to work alongside local authorities to turn Kim Boi – Lac Son into a center for ecological tourism and high-end resorts, a ‘hot spring capital’ and a premium hub for healthcare and beauty, right at the western gateway of the Capital.”

In the context of provincial consolidation, the project complex also plays a pioneering role in shaping the economic and tourism development map of the entire Northern midland and mountainous region, enabling future Phu Tho to fully leverage its landscape, cultural and tourism resource strengths, enhance competitiveness, and attract domestic and international investment flows.

Benefiting from Phu Tho’s ongoing upgrades of connectivity infrastructure with a series of projects expected to be completed by 2026—shortening travel time from Hanoi to Kim Boi to just about one hour—once completed, the complex will not only help position Kim Boi in particular and future Phu Tho in general as one of the country’s leading hot spring resort destinations, but also as an ideal place to live and enjoy a clean and fascinating slice of Switzerland that few people previously knew existed.
