Van Don International Airport

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

As Vietnam’s first privately developed airport, strategically located in the northern region, Van Don International Airport meets ICAO Category 4E standards (as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO).

The airport features modern infrastructure with a runway 3.6 km long and 45 m wide, fully capable of accommodating the world’s most advanced aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. The apron includes 7 aircraft parking positions, comprising 3 remote stands and 4 contact stands. The passenger terminal has a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year, while the cargo handling area is designed for a throughput of 10,000 tons per year. The current infrastructure platform is well prepared to support further expansion of the airport’s scale over the next 10 to 15 years, should demand require.

This project serves as a key growth driver for Van Don in particular and Quang Ninh Province as a whole, stimulating development and attracting investors to the heritage region. The airport was officially put into operation in December 2018. After just one year of operation, Van Don International Airport made its global debut by winning the title of “Asia’s Leading New Airport 2019” at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia–Oceania.

Building on this success, in 2020 Van Don Airport became a facility of special national significance, serving as the gateway for repatriation flights bringing citizens home from pandemic-affected areas under an unprecedented operational process in Vietnam. The project also received two major awards: “Asia’s Leading Airport Lounge” and “Asia’s Leading Regional Airport” at the WTA Asia, as well as “World’s Leading Regional Airport” at the World Travel Awards Global.
